Week 2

Week 2

Finally! Completed two weeks of running! During the first week I was way ahead of plans, as I was running up to 4 km when I was supposed to be running 1.5! I was extremely proud of myself as I hadn't expected it at all! However, towards the second week I started skipping a training day or two which messed up my plans, but thankfully towards the end of the week I pulled everything together and caught up with my training.
I learned that I run better when I run alone, but yet also when there are many people watching. This is because I feel that there is a reason not to cheat myself and say: 'Oh it's okay! I did enough running yesterday anyways!'. I run better alone though because I like to keep to my own pace, which isn't too fast.
As for health wise, I did research about health risks and nutrition. I have been eating carbs well and an hour before running which is great, since I don't feel sick. However, I need to work on drinking water as sometimes I drink too much before which leads me to feeling sick while running. Yesterday I drank to little before running as so got a little dehydrated and tired after. I will work on my drinking, making sure I drink enough during the day and stop an hour before running and during running, then drink a lot once I am done.
I am finding myself looking forward to training sessions, which comes as a shock since I never quite liked running in the first place!
Another issue is finding a good route on the streets where I can run safely. Until I have found a good one, I shall stick to the field. However, the field won't help much except to build a base in my stamina.
I shall keep training and hopefully go for the 5km sooner than I expected!
Until next week!

Let's Go

Planning

After weeks of researching and making training plans, I finally got all my research and plans and headed off to my supervisor to ask for her advice. As she had ran a marathon (or two) before, she had great feedback and tips. After the visit I immediately began the new plans, which are ready and commence on Monday 30th September 2013 (tomorrow).

Pre-reflection

'Running a 42 kilometer marathon! Impossible!' is what someone would respond to the goal I have set, especially knowing I am not quite a strong runner. However, I feel that training for the marathon will change the way I think and the way I manage my health for the long run. Not only will it benefit me health-wise, but also the chosen charity (Cancer Charity Foundation) that the money from those who will sponsor me will go to, will hopefully be benefited greatly too. What motivates me to do this is knowing that at the end of the marathon, I'll be able to look back with pride and accomplishment and knowing that I change lives of little kids who suffer from cancer.

So let's go...
